In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the All Conditions Gear imprint was one of Nike’s most important, gaining influential popularity and yielding a litany of classic models all the while — Air Wildwood, Air Mowabb, Air Moc and Air Baltoro High, to name but a few.
But in recent years, the Nike ACG line has waned, taking a backseat to other priorities, notably Nike Basketball, Nike Running and Nike Sportswear. So much so, in fact, that it’s even been absorbed into that third category.
Of course it doesn’t have to be that way. ACG’s unique mix of any-environment durability and sleek, sporty good looks — the perfect marriage of fashion and function — once made it one of Nike’s most important categories. And perhaps it’s destined for that kind of impact once again.
As seen in the above teaser video, a big Nike ACG announcement is coming December 18, very likely a move to refocus on the beloved brand, as evidenced by the official message from the Swoosh: “On Dec. 18, Nike ACG returns to define sport utility for the city.”
