In 2010, Nike invited French filmmaker Thibaut de Longeville to create a documentary on its most iconic model, the Air Force 1. Storied but rarely seen, the film, Air Force 1: Anatomy of an Urban Legend, is presented today in its entirety.
Don’t misunderstand; this is no promotional behind-the-scenes piece. Instead, de Longeville sought to illuminate the lore of the beloved sneaker, casting a light on its roots, both on basketball courts and in the streets, as well as its legendary staying power. Famous sneaker aficionados from DJ Clark Kent to Bobbito Garcia appear — to name just a couple — as do Nike luminaries Bruce Kilgore and Sandy Bodecker, each contributing their own unique perspective to the film.
Below, watch the full hour-long film and be edified. It explains the significance — the influence — of the acclaimed Uptown as well as any media ever has.
